HOW I HANDLE STRESS…NOW

If you know me, you know I am CRAZY. Really LOL. Always stressed out, always on the go. I overthink everything, I have a hard time letting things go, and I beat myself up over everything. Vicious cycle. Not to mention, I am ALWAYS tired. My boyfriend has tried everything to get me to calm down and I honestly just can’t do it. It’s the WORST (probably for him more than me). For about a month now, I have shifted so many parts of me that I am actually excited to share the improved me. I have made little changes in my daily routine that have truly made an impact (tiny, little things)!

For starters, I now pick my outfits the night before work. Sounds like a no brainer, but I used to wake up and shoot right over to my clothing rack looking through clothes to pick out. Some days it would take me two minutes, some days 30 minutes. RIDICULOUS. I know many people may not have this problem but I actually get excited to dress up for work, it’s a part of me. I enjoy feeling cute all day long (or for as long as I can). This little change has allowed for me to do other things in the morning like tidy up my room or journal before I leave for work.

I also have my lemon water routine now. That routine, in and of itself, has changed my mood. I allow myself ten minutes to chill in bed, scroll through Refinery29 and emails before I wash my face and do my hair.

Lastly, a big change in terms of my anxiety and stress, has been…dun, dun, dun…NO CAFFEINE. YES, YOU READ IT CORRECTLY. If you know me, you know that I ALWAYS have a Starbucks drink in my hand. My boss used to tell me to go grab my Starbucks before we started our morning meeting. It was pretty serious. One of my best friends legit bought me a Starbucks card for my birthday–she knows me so well. I appreciated that gift more than others LOL. Caffeine is the enemy in my life though, sadly. It keeps me up at night. It makes my heart race. I am so reactionary on caffeine. I’m basically hard to deal with on caffeine and I am very jumpy. I am a super animated person already, my boss describes it as “quirky,” but it’s honestly exhausting. Coffee has been a part of my life for over ten years, I usually have a cup at home and a cup once I get into the office. Now I have lemon water at home and an Extra Hot Two Pump Soy Hot Chocolate when I get into the office. Times-a-changing!…But I am better because of it.

These three minor changes have changed my work week. Not to mention that I now sleep so much better because of it. I find myself waking up earlier on weekends because I am not as exhausted from the LONG week.
